Skin Care 101

No matter what type of skin you have the regimen to care for it is universal.  Your regimen should always consist of: 1) cleansing, 2) toning, and 3) moisturizing!

Cleansing rids the surface and pores of debris. Toning balances the skin’s pH level. Moisturizing hydrates the skin to keep it soft and supple. For normal skin, look for products that are gentle and don’t have too much going on. Cetaphil is a great brand for normal skin because it’s gentle and fragrance-free. It’s also wallet-friendly which I love. In this economy we have to save every little coin we can. If you have dry skin, use products that are rich and creamy. Gel and foam cleansers will only make your skin drier. Now if you’re oily, gel and foam cleansers are the way to go. Choosing the perfect moisturizer for oily skin can be a tricky task. Your best bet is leaning toward products that are light and non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t clog your pores. Such products usually contain ingredients such as salicylic acid or Vitamin C. My absolute fav is Murad’s Essential-C Day Moisture with SPF 30. It’s pricey, but worth every penny in my opinion. Caring for combination skin takes trial and error. Assess your problem areas and find what works best. This may take a few tries, but don’t be discouraged.

So whether it’s good, bad or somewhere in the middle it’s important to care for your skin. Healthy skin is a healthy you.
